Xavier Saint James.
(Backstory) We met while we both were working in retail. Not immediately, but once we knew of each other he asked me, “What are your pronouns?” I say she/her cause always been a woman- with all her struggles, ya feel me? lol. He responds “He, they, and my grace”. I was stunned. Holy heck! The power. And ever since then he has been my grace. Truly. I see him as a spiritual partner, someone I agreed to meet up and be friends with here in this 3D human experience. It definitely that we are both Aries sun, we reflect things in each other which helps us stay grounded in ourselves. While still challenging each other to grow beyond who we think we are. Everyone needs a friend (or more) like that. We agree to admire each other for who we are and always support moves made forward into who we want to become. He lives in NY now so our hangouts are virtual. We riff for hours while talking spiritual health, exploring a new tarot deck, giggling about how many eggs we have had to eat, and what faith really requires of us. He is full of wisdom and laced with comedy. I love him deeply and I am so proud of him. (End of backstory).
What about his art?
Xavier is inspired by Black figures and their influence on the Black community and society at large. Finding his power through his own Black experience and creative expression. He has made some incredibly vocal pieces of clothing, I am specifically referring to a particular piece that he had the courage to wear to our place of work at the time. Imagine you are a shopping and this is what the cashier/fitting room person is wearing…

Okay, so this is his early stuff- whatta amazing start!- and then he goes on to create more powerful images seemingly meant to wake the oppressed from their white supremacy induced slumber. I love it. He reminds me to thank God I am Black and to celebrate the Black community for bringing art, beauty and OH SO MUCH grace.
