I met Noa at Georgia State Univerity in the CMII building. This is starting to feel like a plug for GSU- its not. However, if you are currently a student at GSU or want to be, the CMII is a great resource for creativity and networking with creatives.

(first encounter) She was working with @Trestandbelieve on a song that he created for them. She was very focused as we were in the studio, I was just visiting and then spectating. Rocky Chatman was with her as they listened together in between cute musings and talk of dinner ideas. I whispered to Tali, who I had just met, what if we were sitting on the floor in the studio talking and giggling while the next Doja Cat (I mean as an artist, not referring to Doja’s online persona) is trying to work. We didn’t formally meet at the time- I respect that she didn’t not come to socialize. Noa was busy dedicating her time to the craft.

As you can see, I have went full fan girl- doodling on Noa’s photos that I took of her. I think it has something to do with the talent that she has and feeling like I am one of the first group to see her live. Like when she is a big star and everyone agrees that her voice is phenomenal- I will be that fan that can claim to have seen it coming. *hair toss

What does Noa sound like? clich here—> Tiramisu

I am absolutely enamored with Noa’s voice. She has such control of her vocals, it reminds me of an ASMR video- in the way that the movements can be light, graceful and incrediably intentional. It has a softness that my ears always welcome- and she has range. I think butterflies is the best song she has out on Apple Music at the moment. However, I have heard some originals from her that have yet to be recorded and shared with the world- I heard her voice. The lyrics are lost on me, I don’t know what she said because I have only heard it once at an outdoor concert, but I loved listening to her vibe out. She has presence. Her confidence on (and off) stage is that of a trailblazer. The authenticity is strong and honest- Noa takes up space. Her confidence + talent = I might have been giggling in the studio while a future Grammy winner was trying to work. Yikes

Noa is part of the Earthtones band. She is also very supportive of Yako’s musical journey. I admire her ability to collaborate and shine with those around her. I believe it is her camaraderie that will propel her forward. Happy to see a group of artists feeling creative together. :)

We are all waiting to hear more music from Noa, but until then I have asked her a few questions to grab some insight on what the experience with music has been like for her so far:

(Q)UESTION & (A)NSWERS: NOA

(1) Can you explain your relationship to singing/using your voice? (When did is start, what encouraged/inspired you to pursue it, what makes you want to share yourself this way)

My relationship to singing and using my voice is very personal and started with my relationship with my family and recently connected to my relationship with God. I started singing when I was just toddler and my parents were musically inclined as well and it inspired me to continue singing now and become an artist. As I continue to grow up, my passion for music and singing in general sprouted into different ways to where I found interest in teaching children how to sing and becoming a role model to girls in music. As my relationship with God grew recently this year, I begin to realize that my gift given to me by him is bound to be use in his way to spread love and positivity around me as much as possible using my voice and musical talents

(2) As a creative, how do you access your creativity? (Routines, self care, moment before creating)

Recently, I’ve been really reliant on becoming close to God and with the people in my life that genuinely care about me to make sure my creative space is filled with positivity and blessings throughout my process of creating anything. I pray before my day starts and at the end of my day, spend some time by myself, spend some time with family and friends, practice vocally daily for at least an hour, drink lots of water to stay hydrated, write down phrases, words, and topics for song ideas, and records random melodies I think of during the day for song ideas as well.

(3) What do you do if you experience a block or moment of pause from producing your art?

recently, I was under vocal rest due to me losing my voice from singing with bronchitis. In that time period, I rested, prayed, surrounded myself with creators, played my other instruments like guitar and piano, and prioritized other things in my life like school. Sometimes these blockages experienced by creators is needed for reasons unknown until later in life. Those times to breathe might be useful or make you better for later purposes.

(4) What is your current favorite project of yours that you want others to take another look or resist and why?

I don’t really have any projects that are out right now that people should revisit because whoever that girl was then in those songs is not me now. I’d rather continue to progress who I am now than people dwelling on my past. I want the attention that people would take on revisiting a song of mine and put that energy into something that is upcoming. I want to continue to be acknowledged as much as possible to get the message out about any heartbreaking, overachieving, or inspiring moments put into my music for others to relate to.
